Officials propose instantly adjustable slots - 2003-05-31
As soon as six months from now, casinos throughout the nation may start testing technology that would customize slot floors by letting properties
download games from a central database directly onto a slot machine, a leading slot tester told a group of casino technology experts Thursday.

Such systems, which are yet to be available in the United States, would radically change the way slots are configured by letting casinos instantly swap out and test new games at any time on any machine, James Maida, president of Gaming Laboratories International Inc., said during the Gaming Technology Summit conference in Henderson.

Casino tax increase advances - 2003-05-31
A bill containing increased taxes on riverboat casinos that advanced Friday in the Illinois Legislature would hurt the Casino Rock Island, but how much is hard to estimate, a spokesman said.

Bill Renk, the vice president of marketing for the Casino Rock Island, denied that the legislation might put the boat out of business, as some legislators who oppose the bill say.

“I’m not going to say that, not at all,” he said.

Still, he added, a tax increase definitely would hurt.
