Lobbyist Warns of 'taxfest' on Casinos - 2004-01-12
The recent "taxfest" on casinos will prove counterproductive, the casino industry's top lobbyist cautioned lawmakers from gaming states on Friday.

Frank Fahrenkopf, head of the Washington, D.C.-based American Gaming Association, cited Illinois, which raised its top marginal tax rate to 70 percent, and prospective racino states like Maryland
and Pennsylvania, where lawmakers toyed with tax rates nearing 60 percent.

Those states, Fahrenkopf said, are key examples of the mistaken belief that casino gaming revenues are an inexhaustible resource for depleted state treasuries.

Nevada’s 2004 Governor’s Conference on Tourism Coming to Reno Hilton - 2004-01-12
The 2004 Governor’s Conference on Tourism, Nevada’s premier tourism industry gathering, will take place at the Reno Hilton hotel-casino Dec. 6-8, Lt. Gov. Lorraine Hunt, chair of the Nevada Commission on Tourism (NCOT), said today. NCOT alternates the yearly tourism conference between Reno and Las Vegas. It took place in Las Vegas at Caesars Palace in December and attracted more than 800 delegates.

“Rotating the conference between Nevada’s two largest cities is a wonderful way to expose the tourism industry to the newest features and attractions of both metropolitan areas,” Hunt said.
