Harrah's To Buy Binion's Horseshoe - 2004-01-14
Only 3-days after Binion's Horseshoe was forced to shut its doors, the popular hotel-casino will soon see a new owner. Monday afternoon, Harrah's announced it will buy the place -- a deal is all set for the ownership to switch hands.

Harrah's will also take over all of the Horseshoe's debts. It could all happen in a matter of days, but it all depends upon how fast the gaming control board could give the sale their seal of approval. A total cost of the sale has not been disclosed, but industry insiders say it could be somewhere around 50-million dollars.

Iowa County Keeps Eye In Gambling Legislation - 2004-01-14
Worth and Palo Alto county residents hope the Legislature instructs the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission to lift a moratorium on issuing additional casino licenses.

''Voters in both counties passed referendums last year in support of casino gambling. Black Hawk and Wapello county voters also voted in favor of casinos, and Franklin County residents will vote on a proposed casino Jan. 27.
