Tribe Will Deal For Casino - 2004-01-17
Two Oklahoma Indian tribes are prepared to give up claims to 27 million acres in Colorado - including land in Fort Collins -- in return for a small reservation, casino and cultural center somewhere east of Denver.
The Cheyenne and Arapaho tribes said the casino and Colorado Plains Indian Cultural Center would generate 1,500 construction jobs and provide 4,000 permanent jobs.
Long-term, tribal members say the casino and cultural center would create more than 5,500 new jobs, more than $1 billion in new payroll over 10 years, revenue-sharing with local communities, $2 million per year in community reinvestment funds and $3 million for development of a new metro-area events center.
