Storybook casino would aid poorest suburbs - 2004-01-17
They want to take from Indiana and give to the poor.

A coalition of south suburban leaders Friday suggested a Robin Hood-style casino complex in Country Club Hills that would share its earnings only with 18 lower-income Illinois communities and their schools.

The United Southland coalition announced plans to construct a massive casino, hotel, shopping and entertainment center on more than 250 acres bound by Cicero Avenue, 167th Street, Pulaski Road, and Interstates 57 and 80.

Cal City Backs Country Club Hills Casino - 2004-01-17
Calumet City is backing a Country Club Hills casino proposal. The decision came Wednesday night, under a week after Calumet City Mayor Michelle Markiewicz Qualkinbush stated that her city
can no longer afford efforts to bring a casino here.

Calumet City is now one of 18 communities in a revenue-sharing agreement with Country Club Hills and could stand to receive $650,000 annually if the proposal becomes a reality.

"I think it's in the city's best interest that if it does come to the Chicago southland, we share in it," Qualkinbush said.
