Gaming Stocks Turned Out to be Sure Bet in 2003 - 2004-01-02
The past 12 months have been a banner year for gaming stocks, with the average value of casino shares up almost 40 percent -- more than twice the broader market indices.

"The surprise of 2003 was how much the consumer was willing to put up and still want to travel especially when it came to gaming," said Goldman Sachs analyst Steve Kent. "We saw consumers still traveling to Las Vegas in the first half despite the Iraqi war and the fear of terrorism. And in the second half, we saw a resurgence in convention business (that drove demand in Las Vegas skyward)."

Trojans jump back into A-Sun play with North Carolina trip - 2004-01-02
The Troy State men's basketball team will begin 2004 the same way it closed 2003 - hundreds of miles from home.

The Trojans, who came back from the Oneida Bingo & Casino Classic in Green Bay, Wis., on New Year's Eve, departed again on Friday for two weekend games in North Carolina. Troy State (6-3, 2-0 A-Sun) will jump back into Atlantic Sun Conference play at Campell (0-9, 0-2 A-Sun) on Saturday afternoon in Buies Creek, and at Gardner-Webb (3-8, 0-2 A-Sun) in Boiling Springs on Monday
night. The games will mark the end of a five-game road swing for the Trojans, which began on Dec. 20 at Northwestern State in Bossier City, La.
