Zoning change sought for hotel - 2004-01-02
The family that owns Delaware Park racetrack and casino will ask for a zoning change as part of a new plan for getting an occupancy permit for a hotel that New Castle County has refused to let open for over three and a half years.

A. Kimberly Brosseit, attorney for William M. Rickman Sr. and his son William Jr., said her clients intend to purchase from the state almost three acres to the south and west of the hotel at I-95 and Airport Road to enlarge the parking lot.

The plan will require County Council to approve a change in zoning on the land from industrial to commercial use.

'Not just a quiet little holiday' - 2004-01-02
To a lot of Americans, New Year's Day has always gone hand in hand with family gatherings, college football championships and in some cases, recovering from the previous night's celebrations.

In Las Vegas, however, Jan. 1 has also become one of the most popular days of the year to hit the stores and shop.

"If you don't want to play (in the casino), there really aren't many other things to do today in Las Vegas," Bill Berland, a visitor from Albuquerque, N.M., said Thursday as he strolled through the Forum Shops at Caesars with his wife, Debbie. "This is as good as place as any to bum around and kill some time."
