Gaming Board expected to announced which cities made license bids - 2004-01-20
The Gaming Board is expected to announce today which cities have made bids on Illinois' only remaining riverboat casino license.

The bidding started yesterday on the tenth license, which presently belongs to the bankrupt Emerald Casino.

The Gaming Board is expected to select three finalists in February and announce a winner in March.

John Nichols: Don't fall for phony gambling issues - 2004-01-20
The debate over whether to allow casino gambling in Dane County is creating more heat than light.

That's because supporters of a plan to transform the DeJope bingo hall in southeast Madison into a full-scale casino keep trying to talk about anything but the real issue that will be decided by a Feb. 17 referendum on the conversion scheme.

One line of argument suggests that good Dane County liberals must support the casino proposal because it would be operated by the Ho-Chunk Nation.
