Tribes to compete for slot machines - 2004-01-22
Maine's Penobscot and Passamaquoddy tribes want to compete for the right to bring slot machines to Bangor.

The tribes requested a legislative committee Wednesday to reopen the selection process for a slot machine operator at Bangor Raceway and give them an opportunity to get in on the action.

The tribes had sought to build a casino in southern Maine but voters rejected the plan in a statewide referendum in November.

Gambler banned 25 years ago is now welcome in Atlantic City - 2004-01-22
So it's upset him all these years, being banned from the casinos as though he was some kind of wiseguy, on a list with guys nicknamed "Petey Boxcars," "Mousie" and "Big George."

All these years, he has just been Allen G. Perlman, no alias, just a decent guy, running the family textile business in Allentown with his wife.

But because 25 years ago, he was caught cheating at blackjack three weeks after the first casino opened in the seaside resort, Perlman, 56, has not been allowed to set foot inside a casino in Atlantic City since.
