Numbers fail to come up for casino group - 2004-01-22
Stanley Leisure, one of Britain’s top betting and gaming groups, has seen a high number of successful strikes by high rollers at its flagship London casino hurt its half-year earnings.
The company behind three casinos in Edinburgh, including one in the West End, said pre-tax profits fell 13 per cent to £21.5 million, from £24.7m at the same stage to October 26 last year.
Stanley said this was because its upmarket Crockfordsvenue in London, which accounts for about a quarter of all group earnings, only managed to break even after securing a record £10.6m profit last time.
