Municipalities get slots bucks - 2004-01-23
London and three other area municipalities are splitting a $1.9-million payoff from slots, the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp. revealed. In the midst of debate over how much municipalities receive from the slots, the latest three-month payoff brings the total to $14.5 million to London, about $12 million to Point Edward, $1.8 million to Woodstock and $1.6 million to Central-Huron since gambling facilities opened in the communities.
That's about five per cent of the total take, not enough for some area politicians and civic leaders eyeing the millions coming in each quarter from gambling.
