Five injured in Sydney shootings - 2004-01-25
New South Wales police are investigating two unrelated shootings in Sydney overnight in which five people were wounded.

Police say shots were fired from a car towards a line of people standing outside a nightclub at the casino in Pyrmont early this morning.

One man was shot in the hand and two women obtained superficial back wounds.

Police Sergeant Jenny Thompson says police are looking for the cars seen outside the club at the time.

"The vehicles that police believe at this time to be involved are a Nissan and a WRX,' he said.

Room 1660 in the Mohegan Sun Hotel was a bit more messy than the other rooms Joana Rodrigues and Claudette Pedrozo had seen Thursday, but it wasn't that bad. "A lot of guests leave garbage on the floor," Pedrozo said. "Sometimes people forget clothes, rings or cell phones."

The $500-a-night suite was the sixth room Rodrigues cleaned that day. It was the 10th for Pedrozo. They signed up for housekeeping when they applied for these jobs in Brazil. Housekeeping, Pedrozo said, would be simple to learn, and it was.

The two young women are among 200 Brazilian college students, all between the ages of 18 and 26, the casinos have hired to work in several different positions for the next three months.
