Most of the people who beat Las Vegas look more like the cast of "The Revenge of the Nerds!" The perfect example of this will be made into a History Channel movie this week at the Barona Valley Ranch Resort & Casino.

The true-life story of six MIT mathematic students who took the world's most high-profile casinos for millions using a complex "card-counting" method will be reenacted at Barona Valley Ranch Resort & Casino. The young MIT Blackjack team, who changed the way Las Vegas casinos identify and track card-counters, was also the subject of a New York Times best-selling novel.

Art Cole was a thrifty type who liked the color green. He never saved money himself, and in his work as a wholesaler, he didn't give credit. He'd take your check, and if you shortchanged him, you paid cash next time.

Back in 1948, in the heyday of drugstore soda fountains, Art Cole started selling tobacco and candy and gum out of a panel truck in Portland. As a one-man operation, he called on stores, convinving them to stock Lucky Strikes and Chesterfields; Alka-Seltzer; Blackjack, Beeman's and Doublemint; and cigars and chewing tobacco.
