Tulalip casino workers laid off - 2004-01-31
The Tulalip Tribes Friday fired 240 employees from its casino.

Marci Fryberg, the acting general manager of the casino, stated Friday that the move was "not performance-based."

"While decisions like this are extremely difficult, we need to increase the efficiency of our business," Fryberg said. "And that will, in the long run, benefit our tribe and all its members."

Tribe details its casino proposal - 2004-01-31
A 500-slot casino at Highways 99 and 149 in Butte County offers an "incredible opportunity" for the Mechoopda Tribe of the Chico Rancheria, a tribal spokesman said Friday.

The tribe and a Las Vegas backer, Station Casinos Inc., this week announced plans for an almost $80 million project to turn the mostly undeveloped property into Northern California's newest gambling palace.
