Locally trained boxer has shot at world title - 2004-01-05
Locally trained fighter Kassim Ouma came closer to his dream of superstardom when he guaranteed himself a world title shot with an amazing 11-round knockout over Colombian J.C. Candelo on Saturday
night from Foxwoods Casino in Connecticut.
Ouma dominated Candelo from start to finish in the junior middleweight bout, leading big on all three judges scorecards before finishing Candelo just 15 seconds into the 11th round with a blistering barrage of punches. The fight was a mandatory eliminator for the IBF junior-middleweight title held by Winky Wright, who is scheduled to meet WBA-WBC champion Shane Mosely in a unification bout on March 13.
