Developer puts chips in with city - 2004-01-08
A well-known industrial developer has signed on to help develop a casino and entertainment complex in Country Club Hills, officials involved in the project said Monday.

CenterPoint Properties of Oak Brook has agreed to develop 300 acres close to Interstates 80 and 57 where city officials hope to build a casino, golf course and entertainment complex.

The plan, however, hinges on approval from the Illinois Gaming Board, which will decide by mid-March where the next casino is built. Country Club Hills is competing with at least a half-dozen proposals statewide.

Tribe finance committee to meet - 2004-01-08
The Oglala Sioux Tribe's finance committee will meet for a two-day workshop starting today at Prairie Winds Casino.

The federal comptroller and the tribal finance coordinator and nine-member finance committee will scan the $15 million indirect cost and general fund budgets to eliminate any fat.

But the only way to avoid a budget problem like one the tribe encountered at the end of 2003 is to act now, finance coordinator Eileen Janis said. A budget shortfall led to layoffs and reduced pay in November 2003.
