Regulators recommend only 1-year license for Golden Nugget owners - 2004-01-08
The Nevada Gaming Control Board advised the new owners of the Golden Nugget hotel-casino properties receive only a temporary gambling license after raising questions about one of the owner's ties to a strip club operator.

The casino's owners, Timothy Poster and Thomas Breitling, endured more than two hours of questioning Wednesday before the regulatory board
collectively voted to recommend a one-year license. Most licenses are awarded permanently.

The Nevada Gaming Commission will decide in two weeks whether the pair should be licensed to run a casino in the state. The commission typically follows the three-member board's recommendation.

Revamped casino plans fail to win over residents - 2004-01-08
The crossed arms, fierce gestures and angry interruptions told the story: downtown residents are unhappy with developers' new plans for a revamped Baccarat Casino.

Most of the three dozen community members who attended a Tuesday open house presentation of the modified plans didn't like the last batch, either, and they said rotating the planned building 90 degrees to allay concerns about view from a neighbouring building did nothing for most of their complaints.

"If this is fait accompli, why are we doing this dog-and-pony show?" asked Emil van der Poorten, co-chairman of the Community Action Coalition, which opposes the new, expanded Baccarat.
