Tribe plans casino at Kenosha dog track - 2004-01-08
An American Indian tribe has agreed to buy a dog track for $40.5 million to construct a casino there.

Dairyland Greyhound Park investors unanimously authorized the sale option this week, but the Menominee Nation’s plan is contingent on local, state and federal approval.

“It’s not a slam dunk issue,” Menominee Tribal Chairwoman Joan Delabreau said. “Nobody has promised us anything.”

Tribal officials hope to have an application before the Department of the Interior’s Bureau of Indian Gaming by June. The purchase option expires in 2008.

Tribe likely to look at Central Louisiana for casino - 2004-01-08
Unless Gov.-elect Kathleen Blanco has a change of heart about a reservation casino by Shreveport-Bossier City, the Jena Band of Choctaws will redirect its efforts towards obtaining a gambling hall to its home parishes of Grant and LaSalle, the tribe's chief stated.

In a statement released late Wednesday, chief Christine Norris said the tribe was disappointed by Gov. Mike Foster's decision to hand off the issue to Blanco, who takes office Monday.
