It just goes to show, you can live in a country and miss an entire revolution. How many have heard of Northern Soul music or the Wigan Casino?
Not many, I would imagine, yet it happened in the 70s, and became a way of life for a lot of Lancashire folk. It confirms there is a big wall at Watford Gap, but the legend has spawned a phenomenal play which is playing in Westcliff as you read this.
Once Upon A Time In Wigan, is the story of a small derelict ballroom in the Lancashire town, that changed its name to the Wigan Casino and created an 'All Nighter' where the music was hot and soulful, the small dance floor full of dancers who gave their all, sweated gallons and fell out of the hall in the early hours of Sunday.
