New Poker Faces - 2004-02-14
The popularity of televised poker games has more new players trying their luck at Grand Casino Gulfport's low-stakes games. Poker room workers said over the past three months they've seen a growing number of people attending the daily lessons on how to play the game. Last week, 17 people showed up for one poker lesson, over three times the average. All those new faces are just fine with John Bordages, who has been going to the Grand Gulfport's poker room since it opened almost
10 years ago.

"There are a lot of real greenhorns that are playing poker now," said Bordages, who lives in Lakeshore and goes to the poker room six times a week.

Deal reached in Botkins land dispute - 2004-02-14
A legal dispute over 82 acres caught in the crosshairs of a controversial Indian casino project appears to be heading for dismissal in Shelby County Common Pleas Court.

Jane Pohlman, who owns the farmland and had opposed its development as part of a planned gambling complex, would retain ownership as part of the agreement, which has yet to be finalized. Michael VanBrocklin, Botkins' administrator, said Friday the agreement would not jeopardize the proposed casino, which may be built on 50 acres beside the Pohlman property.
