Room tax extension sought: Payment to Casino Express would continue - 2004-02-14
Elko Convention and Visitors Authority's Marketing Committee is hoping Elko City Council will indefinitely prolong the room tax that is reserved for marketing Elko.

The committee also is recommending that ECVA continue to allocate $60,000 out of the marketing funds to Casino Express, although the committee is aware the airline is for sale.

"As long as they continue to fly here, we want the airline to know we will support them," ECVA Executive Director Ralph McMullen said Thursday morning.

Proposal targets casino revenues - 2004-02-14
A campaign that will target 25 percent of American Indian gaming profits to pay for additional police, firefighters and child protective services statewide is building momentum — and could generate millions for Nevada County.

The Gaming Revenue Act of 2004 is one of four initiatives that are aimed at tribal casinos and are being readied for the November ballot. Organizers for the campaign, Californians for Public Safety and Education, must gather 598,105 signatures by mid-June to earn a spot on the ballot.
