If casino OK'd, how would county spend the money? - 2004-02-14
How should Dane County allocate $3.5 million if the casino referendum passes?

County Executive Kathleen Falk wants the money allocated to property tax relief and human services programs.

But according to Tim Saterfield, the County Board's legislative services director, even if the entire $3.5 million went to property tax relief, the average homeowner would only get a $14 cut in his or her county property tax bill.

What if all $3.5 million went to human services? It can't, according to the 2004 county budget.

Regulator fully informed: casino - 2004-02-14
Victoria's gambling regulators have known about Crown Casino's high-roller practices for a while - which last month were found by the Federal Court to be hindering the ability to control fraud, tax evasion and money laundering - according to a Crown spokesman.

The casino also said it did not know it had been under investigation by Victoria's Office of Gaming Regulation for about nine months.

The regulations office said last week that an investigation had begun about the middle of last year, after revelations in the Federal Court that $2.2 million had been moved from the account of Chinese property developer Li Pei Ye with no more authority than a disputed conversation.
