Borgata pulls $1,000 slot machines - 2004-02-15
One of CEO Bob Boughner's favorite picture props inside Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa - the twin $1,000 slot machines - are on the shelf.

Borgata removed the two games at the beginning of this winter and has requested manufacturers to develop a model that hits more often (albeit at lower amounts) and is unique to Borgata, Vice President Paul Tjoumakaris said. The $1,000 Red, White and Blue and Double Jackpot models were converted to $100 games similar to those found in other casinos.

Borgata made the decision after learning that Caesars and possibly others planned to introduce similar games, he said.

If casino comes, deal SD 206 in - 2004-02-15
Bloom Township High School District 206 has joined a growing list of districts that back Country Club Hills' application for the state's 10th and last casino license.

Meanwhile, Homewood School District 153 officials say they are considering a similar move but not until they study the proposal further.

The District 206 board's show of support means it would be in line to receive some of the tax revenue, should the Illinois Gaming Board award the license to Country Club Hills, officials said.
