Track manager hopeful - 2004-02-16
Geoff Andres, the new general manager at the Wheeling Island Racetrack and Gaming Center, keeps a candy dish full of dice in his office.

Each die shows one step in the process of making a casino-grade product, from having the spots carved out to the application of the polish.

If Andres gets his way, though, he'll need a lot more dice and probably a few thousand decks of cards to complete the conversion of the old greyhound track turned slot machine paradise into a real live casino.

Throwing Dice In Class - 2004-02-16
In this American Indian gaming capital of California, casino and campus have entered into a marriage of mutual financial benefits. Two local institutions of higher learning are planning programs to train students for employment in one of the few growth industries in the state: Indian casinos.

Grossmont College in El Cajon hopes next month to get approval to award a certificate of achievement for students finishing courses in the program Tribal Gaming: Culture and Policies. Officials at the two-year college hope the program will evolve into an associate of arts program, with units transferable to four-year colleges.
