Vacationers offered mix of activities by concierge service - 2004-02-16
Chances are high that tourism officials and merchants may look to the casino corridor to find out what visitors expect from the Lake Tahoe experience.

To answer that perplexing question at Caesars Tahoe, Mark Rittorno asked his workers why they live here shortly after he was appointed as general manager.

Activities and the outdoors were mentioned again and again.

So about a year ago, the Stateline casino launched the Lake Tahoe Gateway program - an activities concierge for Caesars guests and others who want another level of vacation planning while they're here.

Blagojevich targets business tax 'loopholes' - 2004-02-16
Gov. Rod Blagojevich said Sunday he will ask lawmakers to end over $300 million worth of business tax "loopholes" and save $200 million by reducing the number of state workers.

Despite the prospect of a $1.7 billion budget deficit, he ruled out seeking a new tax on services, such as auto repairs or dry-cleaning, that are exempt from sales taxes.

Blagojevich also acknowledged the auction of an unused state-owned riverboat casino license will not happen during the current budget year as he had hoped. Now he is counting on getting $350 million from the license in the next budget.
