Olympic glory birthed in Miss. - 2004-02-16
It's right after midnight and Brian Young is taking a final walk around the ring — making sure everything is in order.

It's the eve of Young's latest professional boxing event at a casino in the Delta, and one of the sport's fastest-rising promoters is meticulously sweating the small stuff.

It's also the 36th straight hour Young's 37-year-old body has been going without adequate rest.

"I can't sleep now," said Young, who owns Southaven-based Prize Fight Boxing. "It's fight day. If I lay down, I'll still be working. Thinking about something two weeks down the line."

Merchants OK with preaching downtown, but not volume - 2004-02-16
Downtown merchants say they don't begrudge a local church's right to bring preachers to the pedestrian mall on Main Street.

They just wish the preaching was not so loud.

"I don't think he's helping the church," said Bill Lutes, co-owner of Lutes Casino, 221 S. Main St. "People don't like being yelled at."

Bill's brother Bobby agrees.

"I think he offends more people than he attracts," Bobby Lutes said.
