What's next on SkyCity's development radar - a casino on wheels? Don't laugh - the idea was not rejected when it was put to the company's managing director, Evan Davies.

At a press conference in Darwin following SkyCity's $220 million play for the city's casino, Davies was asked if his company would be interested in using the newly opened rail link to Adelaide, home of its other Australian casino.

He had heard the suggestion, Davies said, and "it's something we'd very happily explore" if the Northern Territory and South Australian Governments and the operators of the Ghan train network were interested.

Las Vegas hotelier eyes luxury lodge opportunity near Queenstown - 2004-02-16
A former Las Vegas hotelier and casino owner is proposing an exclusive luxury lodge at Gibbston Valley, complete with a salmon stocked pond for fishing lovers.

Las Vegas businessman Phil Griffith, who has a large stake in both Queenstown's Wharf Casino and the award-winning Gibbston Valley Winery, will fly high-profile American architects out from New Orleans next month to look at the site.

Mr Griffith's Queenstown business partner in two Queenstown ventures, Mike Stone, yesterday said the lodge, neighbouring Gibbston Valley on former Glenroy Station land 27km east of Queenstown, would be "of a similar market and style to Blanket Bay and Matakauri lodge."
