Coushatta members accuse longtime leader of mismanaging millions - 2004-02-17
The man who has led the Coushatta Tribe of Louisiana for 17 years is accused by other tribal members of mismanaging millions of dollars of the tribe's casino earnings.

In a letter to the U.S. Interior Department, critics of Lovelin Poncho call for an audit of the tribe's finances and an inquiry into how the tribe's funds had been handled.

A dispute over whether or not Poncho is the chairman of the tribe erupted at a Feb. 7 meeting. Opponents said Poncho and a councilman, William Worfel, resigned.

Coushattas dispute who is in charge - 2004-02-17
A dispute has broken out over the leadership of the Coushatta Tribe of Louisiana, which operates the Grand Casino Coushatta at Kinder. The question is whether longtime chairman Lovelin Poncho resigned
in a meeting last weekend.

Poncho says he is still in power. But another camp within the tribe's 813 members say that tribal council members David Sickey and Leonard John are in control. Sickey and John said they are overseeing the tribe's day-to-day operations, including those at the casino.
