WISCONSIN ELECTIONS: Voters reject casino - 2004-02-18
Dane County voters said no to a proposal Tuesday to permit the Ho-Chunk Nation to transform its Madison bingo hall into a full-blown Las Vegas-style casino.

The vote was nonbinding because only the governor has the power to authorize casinos in Wisconsin. Gov. Jim Doyle has said repeatedly he would abide by the results of Tuesday's referendum.

With 182 of 203 precincts reporting, 85,951 people, or 65 percent, voted against the casino, while 46,974 people, or 35 percent voted for it, according to unofficial returns.

Caesars Entertainment to open second Indian casino in California - 2004-02-18
Caesars Entertainment has revealed plans to build a new 200 million dollar resort and casino northeast of Fresno.

The resort will be managed for the Big Sandy Band of Western Mono Indians on tribal land ten miles outside the city.

The property will have between 250 and 300 rooms and at least two thousand slot machines.
