Economists Say Don't Bet On Casino Profits - 2004-02-18
A group of economists and business leaders expressed their opinions against casino gambling Wednesday. The Legislature is looking at a proposal that would permit up to 8 casinos in Nebraska.

Economists from the University of Nebraska said money spent in casinos take away from money spent on other forms of entertainment. They said expanded gambling will shrink the state's economy and won't create new jobs overall.

The group also feels people are being mislead by gambling proponents use of the catch phrase "keep the money in Nebraska".

Assessing Another Casino - 2004-02-18
After the declaration that Ontario’s Economic Development Minister, Joe Cordiano, would be assessing of whether the province can support additional casinos, Erie-Lincoln MP Tim Hudak quickly responded, saying it would destroy the Niagara region’s gaming industry.

"If they did open up a full commercial casino in Toronto, it would decimate Niagara’s gaming industry," Hudak said in the Welland-Port Colborne Tribune earlier this week.
