Ho-Chunk plans for fourth casino go on despite referendum - 2004-02-18
The Ho-Chunk Nation's search for a location for its fourth Wisconsin casino will continue despite the fact that voters resoundingly rejected the tribe's plan to build the facility in Madison, tribal officials said Wednesday.

The tribe has a list of other communities where the casino plan could go next, Ho-Chunk business director Jim Webster said.

"We have a number of locations where we're looking. We don't have a target fourth location," Webster said. "We'll have to find a community where it's a better fit."

Hopes fade for Port Huron casino - 2004-02-18
After nearly 18 months of work, congressional lawmakers are giving up hope they will be able to clear the way for an Indian casino near Port Huron’s Thomas Edison Inn.

Legislation to make a necessary land swap possible has failed to pass the House of Representatives or Senate the past two years.

“This is something that we’re just going to have to keep working with colleagues on,” said U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow, a Democrat from Lansing.
