Caesars in deal on Fresno, Calif. tribal casino - 2004-02-18
Caesars Entertainment Inc. said Wednesday it had reached a preliminary agreement with a California tribe to develop and manage a $200 million casino and hotel complex outside of Fresno in the central part of the state.

The preliminary deal with the Big Sandy Band of Western Mono Indians, which already has one casino, depends on the tribe amending its gambling compact with the state of California, said Las Vegas-based Caesars, the world's largest casino operator.

Casino will pay out despite jackpot glitch - 2004-02-18
Grandwest Casino will honour jackpot payouts in the sum of R355 970 to six punters after Monday's computer problems with some of the casino's slot machines.

This decision came after an investigation by the casino into the malfunction, after the punters complained about being refused payment when the slot machines showed that they had hit the jackpot.

GrandWest general manager, Kurt Peter, said on Wednesday: "At the time the six jackpots were won, we were undertaking routine maintenance and upgrading of hardware in our computer centre.
