Finger Lakes 'racino' opens - 2004-02-19
If opening day is an example, the new “racino” at the Finger Lakes Race Track will hit the jackpot.

At least 1,000 excited gamblers - including some who had waited in line for more than two hours -surged two dozen abreast into the new Finger Lakes Gaming & Racetrack for nearly 10 minutes straight after the wide doorways were thrown open at 10 a.m. Wednesday.

While many queued up for their personal Players Club Card — a card that entitles frequent patrons to raffle tickets and other prizes — most headed straight across the 28,267-square-foot cavernous, dimly lighted casino floor to claim a seat at one of the new 1,010 computerized slot-style machines.

Jury out on Sky City's Darwin buy - 2004-02-19
Sky City Entertainment's purchase of the MGM Darwin casino has analysts divided, with some applauding it and some saying the money would have been better spent somewhere else.

The company last week consented to pay $A195 million ($220 million) for the Northern Territory complex, with the price to be funded entirely by debt.

Analysts pointed out the casino faces an array of regulatory threats.

Goldman Sachs JB Were said there was a high likelihood that the community gaming rebate would end in June next year.
