Is a casino on the cards for downtown Rochester? After years of rumors, serious talks are taking place about the possibility of East Main Street, particularly the Sibley Building or Midtown Plaza, blossoming with a sea of one-armed bandits.

The discussions come as governments increasingly look to gambling for new revenue and as a Rochester mall magnate continues to work with Indian tribes to build a casino in New York.

Effort Grows To Get Seneca Casino Downtown - 2004-02-02
State, congressional and city leaders are boosting efforts to persuade the Seneca Nation to abandon plans for a new casino in Cheektowaga and instead refocus on the downtown Buffalo Convention Center.

Besides enticing the Senecas, the officials also are trying to change the minds of opponents, including County Executive Joel A. Giambra.
