Clubs hold bad hand in pokie game - 2004-02-20
Poker machines at Star City win at least half a million dollars from gamblers each day.

Each machine at the casino wins $133,738 a year, more than three times as much as one in a club, and more than double the amount of a pokie in an average hotel, according to information obtained by the Herald under freedom of information laws.

Star City pays 13.41 per cent tax on its poker machine revenue - less, on average, than hotels and clubs, even before their pokie tax increase which will be phased in later this year.

Land Owners Against Binion Deal - 2004-02-20
Owners of the land under Binion's Horseshoe are refusing cooperate with the planned sale of the hotel-casino to MTR Gaming Group, even while industry analysts and downtown businesses are applauding Harrah's Entertainment's plans for the property.

MTR and Harrah's on Thursday announced signing a definitive agreement for Speakeasy Gaming of Fremont, W.Va., an MTR subsidiary, to buy Binion's Horseshoe from owner Becky Binion Behnen and for Harrah's to operate the hotel-casino for one year, with two one-year extensions of the operating agreement possible.
