MTR Gaming enters agreement on Minnesota track - 2004-02-20
West Virginia-based MTR Gaming Group has signed an contract to invest $7.5 million for a 50 percent share in a planned Minnesota harness racing track.

The announcement on Friday came a day after MTR announced its intent to purchase the historic Binion's Horseshoe Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

The Minnesota venture by Southwest Casino and Hotel Corp. involves the construction of a harness track and card room that would feature poker and other games.

Gambling Proposal Idles - 2004-02-20
The rhetorical dice are still rolling but a proposal to expand gambling in Nebraska was still going nowhere on Friday.

The debate and the week ended with no alterations to the constitutional amendment and no vote to advance it on to the final round of consideration. Sponsoring Senator DiAnna Schimek of Lincoln said that vote likely will come next week.

In the meantime, gambling opponents spent more time railing against casinos and the Legislature's role in allowing them.
