Casinos Weigh Impact Of State Tax Hike - 2004-02-20
Argosy Gaming Co. said Monday it might take a second look at a proposed expansion of its Empress
Casino in Joliet in response to higher riverboat casino taxes approved by lawmakers.

Argosy said it is considering cost-cutting measures to offset the tax hike, and is reviewing its planned investment in a barge-based casino in Joliet.

Argosy is seeking approval from the Illinois Gaming Board for a 75,000-square-foot casino that would replace the two existing Empress riverboats. The company hasn't disclosed what it intends to spend on the project.

Harrah's told to close Iowa dump - 2004-02-20
Harrah's Council Bluffs Casino & Hotel has until April
1 to come up with a plan for improvements at a rubble dump on land it owns close to another casino

It also has to come up with a plan to close the dump, which is on 42 acres west of Interstate 29 near Ameristar Casino.

Construction debris, such as concrete, asphalt, brick and dirt, are being used to fill the land so it can eventually be developed.
