Argosy Gives Go-Ahead For $105M Casino Expansion - 2004-02-20
Building crews are moving Missouri River bottom land outside the Argosy Riverside Casino, which now has the corporate go-ahead to continue with its $105 million expansion.

The plan, approved earlier in the year by Illinois-based Argosy Gaming Co. and the Missouri Gaming Commission, was put on hold in mid January when Missouri Gov. Bob Holden proposed large increases in casino taxes to plug holes in the state budget.

"It didn't make sense for us to proceed if we were going to be hit with an onerous tax increase," said Virginia McDowell, an Argosy vice president.

Owner of Fitzgeralds Hotel-Casino Is Upbeat on Downtown Las Vegas' Future - 2004-02-20
Downtown Las Vegas is changing for the better, as
"fresh capital and fresh ideas" continue to come to the region, the owner of Fitzgeralds said Thursday

Don Barden, who is also chairman and chief executive officer of Majestic Investor, Fitzgeralds' parent, went to Las Vegas to help celebrate the second anniversary of his ownership of the downtown property and to declare company plans.

In a news conference, Barden called downtown changes, such as the new ownership at Binion's Horseshoe and the Golden Nugget, positive and said he is excited to be a part of the evolution.
