Meskwaki tribe proposes $150 million casino and hotel expansion - 2004-02-21
The Meskwaki tribe revealed plans Wednesday to spend over $150 million to expand its hotel and casino by Tama.

The proposal, which would more than double the size of the gaming operation, must be approved by members of the tribe, spokesman Thomas Jochum said.

A referendum will likely be held in 90 days, he said. State and federal approval for the expansion project is not required.

Schaghticokes make casino pitch - 2004-02-21
Plans are being made for a casino in Bridgeport. On Thursday, casino proponents tried to get some support at the State Capitol.

Richard Velky, the chief of the Schaghticoke tribe met privately this afternoon with House Speaker Moira Lyons. About a half hour later Fred DeLuca met with Senate president Kevin Sullivan.

DeLuca is the founder of the Subway franchise. He has spent millions of his own money helping the tribe get federal recognition. He and Velky want to build a casino in Bridgeport.
