Plymouth Council Approves Casino Project Despite Public Outcry - 2004-02-22
Tempers ran high in the generally sleepy Mother Lode village of Plymouth Friday night, as citizens angrily requested the city council to reject a planned Indian casino.

At issue was an attempt by the Ione Miwok band to purchase 200 acres on the south edge of the Amador County town as a site for a casino.

Although a vote showed that 73 percent of Plymouth residents opposed the casino, three of five Plymouth City Council members supported the project, claiming it would fill city coffers and put local residents to work.

Gage Man stayed away from traffic and sped to a driving neck win Sunday in the Grade 2 $122,680 Casino Cash Derby at Sunland Park Racetrack & Casino.

The 3-year-old gelded son of Okey Dokey Dale was the top qualifier and raced as the 3-1 second choice with J.J. Gonzales in the boot.

Gage Man broke cleanly from the middle of the track and accelerated briskly in the final stages to roar past Black Jack Fortune.
