Attorney: Casino can't pump water - 2004-02-22
The Timbisha Shoshone tribe will have no authority to pump its own water if a casino is constructed inside the city limits, according to a legal opinion by a city water rights attorney.

The tribe, which hopes to construct a casino in Hesperia, will have no special rights to the city's water supply, according to Robert Dougherty, a lawyer with Covington & Crowe, which represents Hesperia. Dougherty successfully represented the California Farm Bureau in its fight to protect farmers' water from being taken by cities without payment.

Par-A-Dice casino signs on for four more years - 2004-02-22
The Illinois Gaming Board on Thursday renewed the casino license of the Par-A-Dice for at least four years and asked its proprietors, Boyd Gaming Corp., for details about shelved plans to further develop the East Peoria property.

The approval came after East Peoria Mayor Charles Dobbelaire sent the panel a letter this week supporting the license renewal but encouraging Par-A-Dice to improve its hotel-and-riverboat complex along the Illinois River.
