State casino gambling unlikely, Bredesen says - 2004-02-24
Gov. Phil Bredesen claims it is ''virtually impossible'' that Tennessee would have casino gambling in the near future, despite some legislative movement this year to approve casinos in Memphis.

''We just started a lottery that's not a month old. The issue to extend gambling any further in the state ought to stop right there for five to 10 years, and then let's look at where we are,'' Bredesen told reporters yesterday.

The House State and Local Government Committee is scheduled to take up a resolution today that could be the vehicle.

Netanyahu: Eilat will have a casino - 2004-02-24
Minister of Finance Benjamin Netanyahu stated yesterday that Eilat’s development would make great strides in the next few years, including a railway line from the central region, a large amusement park, and potentially even a casino.

Netanyahu was speaking at a prime minister’s conference for tourism. He said that an amusement park would be developed north of Eilat, and added that a decision on a railway line to Eilat would be taken soon, which would boost tourism in the town. Minister of Tourism Binyamin (Benny) Elon, on the other hand, said that no casino would open in Eilat while he was minister.
