Legislators want casino subject on ballot - 2004-02-28
Local legislators, including a Henderson senator, voiced general support Saturday for bills filed Friday that would permit Kentuckians to vote on whether casinos should be permittted in the state.

If constituents approve a constitutional amendment, it would clear the path for a plan worked out with Kentucky's horse racing trade that calls for four land-based casinos and five casinos at horse racing tracks in Louisville, northern Kentucky, Lexington, Franklin and Prestonsburg.

It's merely a matter of time before Foxwoods Resort Casino and Mohegan Sun have added competition. But just how much time is anyone's guess.
And the Narragansett tribe of Charlestown, R.I., has revealed plans to build a $450 million casino.

A poll by the Mohegan tribe before the attacks of Sept. 11 suggested the northeastern United States could host four additional casinos the size of Foxwoods or Mohegan Sun minus a huge impact on the profitability on any.
