Detroit City Council clears path for establishing of permanent casinos - 2004-02-28
The Detroit City Council voted Friday to extract its objection to a federal lawsuit agreement between the MotorCity and Greektown casinos and the Lac Vieux Desert Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians tribe.

The tribe sued in 1997, saying its constitutional rights were infringed upon when the city adopted an ordinance that featured preferences for the MotorCity and Greektown casinos, whose endorser supported attempts to legalize the gambling houses in the city.
