Project would plant casino within close proximity to Nashville - 2004-02-28
Casino-style gambling may be stepping a lot closer to Middle Tennessee.

Bills were brought in the Kentucky legislature yesterday that would permit five racetracks in that state to have casino licenses, one as close as Kentucky Downs in Franklin, Ky., just across the state line on Interstate 65 — 41 miles from Nashville.

Eric Vanaman of Cottontown stated he enjoys the concept of having a casino just up the highway.

Legislators file casino measures - 2004-02-28
Legislation filed yesterday would introduce casino gambling to Kentucky, pumping over $430 million a year into Kentucky's anemic state budget and generating employment, according to the measure's sponsor.

Rep. Larry Clark, D-Louis-ville, filed two measures: House Bill 636, a constitutional amendment to permit casino gambling at racetracks and elsewhere, regulated by a new Kentucky Gaming Commission; and HB 637, enabling legislation that spells out how the cash would be distributed and how casinos would run.
