Gambling saves community, but with a heavy price - 2004-02-29
One evening in 1993, community leaders deliberated whether to welcome a riverboat casino to this blue-collar town on the outskirts of Kansas City. Mayor Betty Burch, an ex-Bible-school teacher, was the lone dissenter.

With her influence, a referendum permitting a casino passed handily. Argosy Gaming Co. outfitted a riverboat for gambling here. At the grand debut in 1994, Mayor Burch pulled the handle on one of the Kansas City area's first slot machines.

Legislation to stop money laundering in the UK are being expanded to various new business sectors.
Lawyers, accountants, casino bosses and estate agents could all now be threatened with serving time in prison if they fail to report alleged fraud.

Lawyers, accountants, casino bosses and estate agents must now notify the NCIS if someone makes a questionable purchase or wager of £10,000 or above.
