Washoe Board Cuts Casino Values - 2004-02-29
In a motion spurred by the spread of California Indian casinos, property values for two of Reno's largest hotel-casinos have been cut an additional $34 million.
The Washoe County Board of Equalization's action Friday regarding the Silver Legacy and Circus Circus brings to $107 million the total taxable value cuts for downtown Reno resorts for the coming year. Leslie Martin, Mandalay Resort Group treasurer representing both the Silver Legacy and Circus Circus, blamed the resorts' slumping income on last year's launching of the Thunder Valley Indian casino close to Sacramento.

More investment required for Kentucky’s troubled horse trade - 2004-02-29
Kentucky is in danger of losing its signature trade, horse racing and breeding, unless an aggressive economic development plan, bolstered by funds gleaned from casino gaming, is integrated right away, according to John Gaines, one of the most influential members of the state’s Thoroughbred.
