Scam artist sentenced to 5 years for long list of ripoffs - 2004-02-03
Angelo Giordano’s luck ran out Monday when he was sentenced to five years and three months in prison for a long list of scams and ripoffs.

Giordano — who once was almost hired to run a casino ship for the city of Fort Myers — also was ordered to serve five years of probation and repay $1.59 million to the people he swindled.

U.S. District Judge John E. Steele gave Giordano the maximum punishment under applicable sentencing guidelines.

$506M bid plan for state-owned casino - 2004-02-03
Illinois would become the first state to own a casino, under a $506 million bid presented by a gambling hall operator.

Penn National Gaming, a publicly held company, is bidding for Illinois' last remaining casino license. It is proposing to construct a $255 million casino, sell it to Illinois for $1, and then manage it for the state, a source close to the bidding process said. Penn is bidding against six other companies.
