Tribes, governor move forward with casino deal - 2004-02-04
Negotiators for Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and eight Indian tribes have quickly moved forward on a long-term agreement that would expand casino gambling operations while sharply increasing payments to the state, sources stated on Tuesday.
If the administration concurs to a compact for 50 years or longer that lifts the cap on the amount of slot machines permitted in tribal casinos and permits the addition of high-stakes games like craps and roulette, then some tribes would be willing to contribute over 15 percent of their yearly gaming profit to the state.
