GAMING BOARD: Trump wins support for license bid - 2004-02-05
After years of talk about moving into the state, New York developer and casino owner Donald Trump had no problem gaining support from state regulators Wednesday for his licensing as a gaming operator.

Trump, who said he is eyeing a number of opportunities in Las Vegas and elsewhere in Nevada, was unanimously recommended for licensing by the Gaming Control Board after a brief hearing.

Trump said he is considering real estate and gaming projects in Las Vegas and that a Trump Tower residential development is a possibility. A Trump Tower project in Las Vegas probably would be exclusively residential, he said.

MIKE WEATHERFORD: Shakespeare will have to wait while Starbright Theatre brings on the laughs this month - 2004-02-05
It ain't Shakespeare, but the Starbright Theatre in the Sun City development will be busy nonetheless with a band of casino performers presenting variety show named "Class Acts."

Comedian Geechy Guy (Michael Cathers) hosts and recruits the other acts for the variety format. The show opens Friday with two comic impressionists -- Robbie Howard and Kathy Walker -- backed by the keyboards of Howard's musical director, Pat Marlin.

It's a far cry from "Julius Caesar," originally announced for this month by the Starbright Theatre Company, the startup professional troupe that staged "Scrooge" in December at the 312-seat venue at 2215 Thomas Ryan Blvd.
